Lee Note 8 Rand Evans March 29, 2001

Kay,

I think this is a great idea for the old REL classmates to keep in touch. I was sorry not to attend the 40th reunion last year but I never got the information about when and where it was to be. I've been to only one reunion, the 15th, I think. I haven't kept in touch much over the years but I have often thought of the friends I had there over the years.

I went to UT Austin from high school, getting my BA, MA and PhD degrees there. I married Mary Elizabeth Kubica (REL Class of 1959) in 1963. We are still together with three grown kids, Victoria, Karl and Veronica.

My Ph.D. was in psychology from UT in 1967. I have since taught at several places around the country: Wright State University in Dayton Ohio (1967-1972), The University of New Hampshire (1972-1976), Texas A&M University (where I was department chair in psychology 1976-1987), The University of Baltimore (where I was Dean of Liberal Arts, 1987-1990) and East Carolina University in North Carolina (where I was chair 1990-1998).

Now I am back in the faculty again. I spent a year teaching at Harvard and doing research in the history of psychology and the history of science, which is the field I have worked in for most of my career. Right now I am working on producing an instructional television series on the history of psychology.

It has been an enjoyable career but Mary and I are looking forward to retirement in two or three years and plan to live in southern Maine near the ocean, mountains and lakes (well - you can do that in southern Maine).

It is fun to hear about classmates from long ago. I remember a performance a lot of us did our senior year. Some of us played alumni from REL 50 years later reminiscing about individuals and groups -- which served as an introduction to some routines by students. Miss Mitchem projected slides of some of the classmates too. In those days Miss Mitchem whitened up my hair to add the 50 years. There wouldn't be any need for that now.

Best,

Rand Evans
