Lee Note 65 News from Peru and Larry Shelton June 25, 2001

Prolog from Kay: When I saw on CNN News Sunday, that there had been a bad earthquake in Peru, I immediately thought of Larry Shelton. I sent him an email and these are his responses.

Kay

Thank you. I had not heard (I was out with my grandson at Herman Park on the Train/ Boats and tossing a football (with a 4-year-old).

Yes, I will try to find out. My office staff has been complaining of the winds, and believe it or not, the winds seem to come before the earthquakes. Thank you for the concern.

They are more than employees. I cannot understand a business owner who can not come to care for the people as an extension of his being. It is the hardest part of owning a company; the worry that I might do something that might eventually impact negatively their lives.

Forget what I did to bring them up to a new level of life and lifestyle, isn't it wrong to make them aware of the joy of that life and then be the cause that they should lose it? I guess its " ... how do you keep them down on the farm..." I will be in touch.

Larry Shelton

Kay:

I called my partner, and at the same time found the information on the Internet. She said they had no effects from the quake (timblor, they call them). I don't mention it, but we normally have a "quiver" every time I am there.

It was in the South near AERIQUIPA, which is one of the major cities of Peru (3rd or 4th largest). You may remember it from the air crash about 4 years ago. My office is about the same distance to the north of LIMA, right on the Pacific.

The major cause of death is that the homes all have concrete slab roofs, and when the walls fail, the slab falls on those inside. She is trying to find out about family near there now.

Thank you for the message, Kay, and for the thought.
