Since so many of you have been kind to ask about our daughter, Stephanie, and her pregnancy, let me proudly inform you that our new grand daughter, Carmella Star Shaffer, was safely delivered by my little girl at 3:00 am this 23rd day of June 2001 at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach.

She is the product of a union that began in Carmel, California on Jan. 15, 2000, and she will, no doubt, be a star in her own right. Carmella, or "Mella," as she is being called by Steph and James, weighed 7 pounds, 1 oz. and is a dainty 18.5 inches long. Carole, my wife, said she's perfect, with James' coloring and dark brown eyes and Steph's mouth, hands and feet.

I go out there next Friday to see her for two days, then leave for Vancouver from LAX on that Sunday. I'll be back in Houston on July 6.
