Lee Note 61 Math Horrors Revealed June 19, 2001
From Larry Shelton
Ahhhhhh... Ms. Plagens. I was one of her WORST students... God knows I tried harder in her class than any other ... even LATIN!! Hey, her "BOOK" that we had to copy was good stuff. I used it in college and used it to help my oldest kids... till I lost it (I think they threw it out for spite).
Now, Ms. Plagens LOVED Mary Lee (kept calling her by her sister's name - Martha). Which I do not remember Mary appreciating very much.
I remember Mary made FANTASTIC grades in that class. I still remember Ms. Plagens saying "...and there you are, hanging on to him like a sick kitten to a hot brick." " I hate these class rooms. You can always put on enough to stay warm but can never take off enough to stay cool."
Was I ever glad to exit that class!!

I had a terrible time with Mrs. Plagens' Algebra II class!

Re: Mrs. Plagens to Carla and Phyllis --
I felt the same way about Mrs. Plagens' Algebra class as Phyllis and Carla did. I was terrified of her! I sat in one of the front seats and was always afraid she would call on me and I would not know the answer.
She embarrassed you so if you didn't. I hated that class and was so thankful when it was over. I will never forget all those horrible rules on the boards that we had to copy. Wish I'd known then that I wasn't the only one afraid of her.

Kay,
I just have to get my two cents worth in about our plane geometry classes.
I took the honors class with great confidence because I had done so well in all my algebra classes. When I found myself in Mr. Wedgeworth's class it was my worst high school nightmare. I tell people today that it was only because he took pity on me that I passed his class.
At the time, it seemed to me that everyone else in the class was "getting it" but I never did.
Thanks to all of you for being honest about your experience in plane geometry. It helps my self-esteem!
