Lee Note 44 Kay Morrow May 16, 2001
Dear Lee Friends,
I have included small tidbits about my life as it related to topics that were being discussed or were relevant at the time. The day has finally come when I have no stories, memories or autobiographies to share from you. So I guess it is my turn.
I went to The University of Texas at Austin after high school. I was President of my sorority, Delta Zeta, and that lead to my first job as a Field Representative. The job was based in Des Moines, Iowa. My boss got me a blind date that led to a 31-year marriage.
I had positions as Data Processing Director at a hospital followed by some other management positions such that I was there thirteen years. I moved on to Drake University where I was an Instructor in the College of Business. I got to teach introduction to the "new software products" – WordPerfect, Lotus, Word, and Excel for five years. I then had four years of an academic advising position.
I then, moved to a new community college campus and was "the computer person." I taught classes, marketed the adult evening computer short courses, and was the computer techie for the campus. One of the joys of this position was that senior citizens – 62 years or older could take any class on campus – FREE. I had a great group of these students along with lots of adults who needed to gain computer skills.
I am flying to Des Moines tonight. Tomorrow afternoon, I will be visiting with many of these former students at a reception at the college. On Saturday, I am going to attend the graduation from the four-year school, Central College in Pella, Iowa. One of the graduates will be a woman who not only was my student, but she worked as the student lab monitor for me for four semesters while she was earning her two-year degree. One of the joys of being a teacher is celebrating these kinds of successes of your students.
On the family side, I have two lovely daughters. Stephanie has been married for almost two years to a wonderful eighth grade Social Studies teacher and coach. She had a distinguish career as a softball player in high school (Outstanding Player in the state) and in college at Drake. Her name is very well known and she is using those contacts and her outgoing personality as a successful real estate agent in West Des Moines.
Our younger daughter, Stacie, finished a degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas last May. She is a Quality Engineer at Dell. She was honored at Texas for her service to the university and the picture I have attached was taken at the Dean of Student’s reception to honor the Dean’s Dozen. Yes, I am a proud Mother.

I decided in 1997 that I wanted to move back to Texas. I got divorced and started the job search. I moved to Dallas in June 1998 into my present position as a Technical Instructor. My company is a ten-year-old software company that sells to the vertical markets of hospitals and the banking industry. We have changed names several times and just Monday night we were acquired by Xcare.net. Change is constant in this world. I believe this change is a win-win. We each need the skills and products of the other company.
I appreciate all the wonderful comments that many of you have sent to me about this email project. I have loved doing the work and as I have told several, "it is a labor of love." My reward is knowing that friends who have "lost" each other have now been found. It is still my goal to try to find everyone of the? 546? Or whatever the total number is, that identify themselves as being in the 1960 class.
I have in my possession a copy of the spreadsheet that is the Master REL Class list. I will be updating it with the changes that some of you have sent me. I will be in touch to verify that we do have the correct information. Please let me know if you move and I will keep it updated.
Watch for more updates on the contents of the website as we work to add pictures and information to it. Thanks to Keith for his great work on this project!
Your friend and classmate,
Kay Morrow Wright
