Lee Note 39 Memories from Mary Sue Wilson May 9, 2001
Dear Kay,
I absolutely loved Phyllis Busby's descriptions of Mrs. Gelber. She was so dedicated and sweet. Can imagine her bribing Phyllis not to ever take another chemistry course! Was it a hard promise to keep, Phyllis?!
Wouldn't have been had she asked me! But somehow I did really love her. She made up for Mr. Wedgeworth, the jerk!
I had a similar experience with Mr. Wedgeworth like Donna Bryan did. My only C in high school! He told me the first day of class that he thought I was going to be one of those people who made A's in everything else and failed plane geometry!! (Could it be that I was flirting with someone on the back row when he called my name?!!!)
He damn near did fail me...my sweet daddy got up at 4:30 a.m. for months on end to tutor me in that class (I did not transfer out, smart Donna!). What a memory!
