Lee Note 25 Kay Garner April 19, 2001
Kay and Class of "60,
It seems so natural to be writing to you even though our lives have all taken such different paths over the years since REL. Life has been very good to me and has allowed me to have fulfilling experiences.
Let’s see where to begin… After graduation from REL… first stop was Sam Houston State Teachers College and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority… I married Lee Horacefield (REL Class of ’58) in 1963 and we are still married. We lived in Baytown where our three sons (Greg, David and Paul) were born. I helped start Noah’s Ark Day School at Grace Methodist Church in Baytown and was the first teacher. The program continues today.
I graduated from University of Houston. Our family lived in Baytown until 1995. I taught elementary school for GCCISD for 20 years and retired in 1996. We built a home here in Clear Lake (Houston) and really do like living here. The location is great and allows us to be close enough to enjoy being with David and Paul here in Clear Lake and Greg and Pam (daughter-in-law) and our grandchildren (Karisa 7 years old and Andrew 5 years old) who live in Crosby.
My brother, Freddie Garner and his family and grandchildren still live in Baytown. Both of my parents and Lee’s father are deceased. Lee’s mother is in a retirement home in Friendswood.
Over the years we have enjoyed camping, travel and the years spent at the beach in our condo at The Galvestonian. The water and sand provided pleasure as well as relaxation and a time of tranquility. We bought it with the idea of using it as a weekend retreat and enjoyed it so much that we eventually sold our home in Baytown and stayed there until we built our present home in Clear Lake. Yes, we did drive back daily to Baytown for Lee’s work and my teaching. One day the phone rang and someone wanted to buy the condo and we sold. Our entire family will always have fond memories of the beach days.
I am now in a new career and just loving every minute of it. I am always quick to say that I loved my days of teaching. "Teaching was good to me and I was good to teaching." However, I have always had an interest in real estate and wanted to experience it. So, it was off to school again. Now, I have a well-established business in real estate sales at Keller Williams Realty in Clear Lake.
My constant thirst for knowledge and my unending drive allow me to maintain success in real estate here in the Clear Lake/NASA area and the surrounding Greater Bay Area. I also have an extensive referral network with top agents all over the US and Canada. I have four members on The Kay Horacefield Real Estate Team. One of them is Joy Woodall who has begun working the Baytown area for our team. Joy and I have been friends since Horace Mann Junior High.
If you are in the Clear Lake area, you will see my cars running around with signs that read: Kay Horacefield - Keller Williams Real Estate - For Out of This World Real Estate Service "Call Kay!" I drive a white Lexus RX300 that has a blue sign on it with a picture taken from the shuttle of the moon on earth’s horizon.
The cars are always out and about. You are invited to visit my web site.
www.callkay.com and of course call if you or anyone you know would like some real estate help. We will have fun doing business or just answering a question. We are located across the street from NASA/JSC on NASA Rd. 1. Drop in for a visit, anytime. In addition to finding time for my business and maintaining a balanced family life with grandchildren time, I still teach (volunteer) in my neighborhood elementary school one day a week. Working with the second graders (nine classes) and their teachers at Brookwood Elementary affords me time to give back to the community who supports my business, as well as keeping me on my toes in education. The sound of children’s voices and the smells of the school building flood my mind with memories. Walking in sets future memories in motion.
I look forward to attending the next class reunion and hearing from more classmates. This is a wonderful time to reconnect, reflect and share. Thanks to everyone for taking their time and thanks for being willing to give snap shots of your life after 1960 until 2001.
Make it a successful day.
Kay (Garner) Horacefield
