Lee Note 16 Jay Smith April 6, 2001

To Kay and everyone in our class:

Thanks for all the letters and updates on people in our class. It is really fun to follow my classmates. I was able to attend the Class Reunion last summer and really enjoyed it. This was only my second one, but I am planning to attend more of them in the future.

At the reunion, I was first saddened and then puzzled when they passed out the list of deceased class members and I saw Bill Edwards on the list. I was puzzled because I had talked with his parents within the last year or so and had the impression he was a professor at a college somewhere. After doing some research at the Presbyterian Church and on the Internet, I found that Bill is very much alive and doing well. Although he was recovering from some surgery last summer, Bill is a professor at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. I had an email address for him, but when I sent something to him, it came back undelivered. I guess I will have to call him again.

Although my biography was not in the bound book at last summer's reunion, I was able to provide the following as a late arrival. I'll include it here for those that did not get a copy. I received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UT, Austin in 1965 and an MBA from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1974. I continued my competitive swimming at UT and with the Masters program in Spokane, WA and Boca Raton, FL.

After graduation from UT, I worked for the Boeing Corp. in Seattle and Houston on military and the Apollo programs. From 1974 - 1999, I worked for IBM in Spokane and Richland, WA, Atlanta, Boca Raton, FL and Raleigh, NC. My jobs ranged from computer sales, business planning, and strategic product planning, to project management.

I married Lynn Mitchell (Beaumont) in 1969. We have a son, Dane (27), who is currently VP of Engineering for a startup company in New York City. Our daughter, Dallas (22), is a senior majoring in Journalism at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She recently received an Emmy for one of the documentaries she has produced.

I retired in January 2000, to enjoy more time with golf, camping and volunteer work. Last summer (1999) my volunteer work with the Special Olympic World Games in Raleigh allowed me to be the host escort for a number of celebrities, including Kathy Ireland, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Miss USA.

Once again, thanks for the information on everyone.
