Lee Note 1 Announcements February 18, 2001
Dear Friends,
First, let me say thank you to the over 50 people who have responded so positively to this idea. It has been fun reading all the notes and I have forwarded the information to Lynda Thedford Barr and Linda Land Ramsey. From emails and some phone calls we have this news to share:
Big promotion announcement at Exxon:
Effective February 16, 2001, Ferne Nichols Masters is promoted to Senior Staff Administrative Assistant, Medicine and Occupational Health Department, Baytown Area. Ferne will report to Dr. R. O. Dockins and will be located at The Baytown Chemical Plant. Congratulations, Ferne.
Retirement news from Virgil Tiemann, Superintendent of Alvin Independent School District:
"I did retire from being a school superintendent prior to Christmas. I am now working part-time at our regional education service center directing a principals' certification program. I am also "messing" with a couple of other things, which altogether keep me full-time and generally out of trouble. Thanks and keep in touch." Virgil
Award news from Lynda Thedford Barr, real estate agent extraordinaire with the Gary Greene office of Prudential, in the Memorial/Town & Country area in Houston:
Lynda has learned that she is going to be recognized as being in the top 5% of all Prudential Realtors nation wide at the International Prudential convention in Las Vegas, March 12, 2001. – Congratulations, Lynda.
News about the life, activities and a new granddaughter from Paula Hodge Olive:
"I'm finding life very hectic these days with a full time teaching job, tutoring after school, a daughter who is a sophomore at DePaul, and another daughter who just presented me with my first grandbaby three and a half months ago. At the moment they live in Phoenix, which is much too far!! I'm flying out this weekend for three days because I haven't seen precious Emma in two months! Plus a husband and making a so-so effort at keeping a reasonably clean house! I'm really envying all those my age that are able to retire now!! I've got to close this now, school is almost out and I have carpool duty. Thanks for the work you are doing!" Paula
Larrry Crain is here in Garland:
Through a phone call, he reported that his son, Larry, Jr. got engaged this week. His son, Colby and wife Becky, presented Larry and Eyleen (Rawe, Lee ‘61) with a granddaughter, Chandler, last August.
Carla Poteet Wheeler shared the following information. I felt that there maybe some interest in communicating with someone who has had a similar experience as hers:
"Thank you for the note and for undertaking such a project! My email address is still current, and I very much want to be included! I was unable to come to the reunion last summer due to hip replacement surgery and really regretted having to miss it! My "bionic" hip is going great, and I would like to hear how everyone else is doing! Thanks again for including me! Hope to hear from y'all soon!" Carla Poteet Wheeler
Charles and Nancy (Fennema) Gore sent this note:
"Nancy and I just returned from two weeks in the St. Petersburg, Russia, area doing work with the Josh McDowell Ministry. The temperatures alternated from -28 F to 34 F. We visited with many orphans and school children, giving out a lot of hugs, humanitarian aid, and the Gospel. We really enjoy working over there and go back every year to get our hearts back from our previous visits. Nancy will probably go back to Siberia this summer." Charles Gore
