Lee Note 116 Rufus Honeycutt December 4, 2001

I joined the Marine Corps in 1960. I did a tour in Viet Nam with the first Marine helicopter unit, sent there to support Viet Rangers.  I spent six years in the Corps, made it to Staff Sergeant and got married to a girl from Massachusetts.

I went to work for IBM at NASA in 1966. Interestingly, I worked at Exxon on some of their process control systems.  In 1975 I was transferred to Boca Raton, Florida. I did not like it there until I became interested in scuba diving, off shore fishing, and golf. I worked with Jay Smith for about a year.

My father died in 1983 in Kerrville where he had retired.  We stayed in Florida until my 50th birthday in 1992. I was always determined to return to Texas and retire. I did retire in 1997 after 30 years. I spent those last five years in Austin as a Senior Engineer and manager of server development.

I spend most of my time these days volunteering and traveling. My wife, Margaret, and I just celebrated our 37th anniversary. I live in Round Rock.  My brother, Julius, lives in Dayton with his son Michael. My sister, Laura, lives in Richardson. My mother lives in Zavalla, near Lufkin.
