Lee Note 111 Thoughts from Larry Shelton September 27, 2001
Lee classmates: I sent a note to Larry Shelton to ask him if he would send us a note as to what had been the reaction in Peru to the incidents here. He also will enlighten us as to what he has seen as he has traveled over the years to other countries. Here is his reply.
Kay: I am just returning for a short visit to the USA. Almost to a person, the Peruvians cannot understand how the terrorists could be that crazy, and agree with our policy of "you are with us or with the other guys".
They have seen the terrorists in their country for years, though not at the extent we had in the USA. They never were subjected to the kind of damage which followed schemes involving the planning that this terror took.
.
But they have lived with the terror and the damages to their infrastructure to the extent that they never knew when they would have water or electricity.
Me, I figure I will fly as usual. It " comes with the territory" of the life style I have selected. I just hope I am not on the aircraft when it is someone else's day. Right?
I have always thought we have been too lax on our borders. And the US never goes out looking for those who come and stay illegally. We just give them medical and other benefits if they do. Ahemmmmm.
Well, I will support my nation in this time, and will submit to more security controls... hey, we have LESS than MOST OTHER NATIONS WHO TAKE THE TERRORIST SERIOUSLY.
How many of you have had to wait in a line and, one by one, go to the rows of baggage and carry YOUR baggage over to the cart. If YOU did not carry it from the waiting line to the cart, it did not go on the plane. (No unaccompanied baggage). Frisks and searches of all hand baggage for years before now has been done by MANY countries.
We submit to this when we go into a Federal building. We are going to complain about it when the object of the danger is ourselves and not the judge or the persons involved in the case of a courtroom??
Enough, Shelton!
Ciao! Larry Shelton
