Lee Note 107 Brigadier Report - Sandra Barrett September 20, 2001
I have to agree with Jo and the rest, that the reunion/last hoorah was quite a scene. I made the breakfast on Saturday morning and quite frankly was surprised that so much nostalgia came over me. The very first vision I had was when I walked into the cafeteria. I could almost see the Juke Box and all of us knowing the words to every one of those yummy 50's songs.
Were they great or what!! Of course, that led my thoughts to the Quack Shack. My home away from home. What a perfectly wonderful time those nights were. I could see all of us dancing just as clear as day.
I remember in particular one night driving up to the Quack Shack in my brand new car my parents had bought me---------a 1960 Chevrolet (black). Boy did I love that car. We drove right up to the front and low and behold (unknown to me) my future husband put his foot on my bumper and told me I was a spoiled brat with a new car. Naturally, being the feisty one I was (haven't changed much), I immediately threatened him on his beautiful life if he did not remove that foot instantly. Who would have guessed how life would turn out.
From cafeteria memories, came Brig memories. Could it really have been that small. I could see Betty White with her shorts and white shirt and good ole Alvera Griffin with her glasses on her nose and mass chaos as everyone got ready to go sweat out on the practice field. The part I liked best about that was watching the track boys run by and hearing the football boys on their practice field. Could that really be over 40 years ago!! Then I remembered with pleasure, the Brigadier Ball when I was crowned Queen.
What a thrill that was. My niece was crown bearer. She was so little. Today she is in her late 40's. Wow!!!!
The bottom line to me is that I got to see some folks I had not seen in all those years and may never see again; got to return (even if for a couple of hours) to those great days when the biggest problem I had was having a date for both nights of the weekend. Does this sound familiar to any of you??
I am really thankful that I was lucky enough to be there and to remember.
