Marshall Haferkamp was in Dallas to visit relatives the weekend of September 27th - October 2nd. We had a dinner at Mondo’s restaurant in north Dallas on Sunday evening. Tom Rhodes from Pert, Texas joined us since we had "adopted" him as being "close to a DFW resident."
Tom, Marshal and I were the first to arrive. In addition to visiting about what we are doing these days as well as how we moved to this place since high school, Tom and Marshall were able to spend some time talking about how Tom can add acres of natural grasses to his 96 acre farm in Pert. Tom now lives on the farm with his horses, cows, and four dogs. Those of you who also live on farms as small as 10 acres may be interested in sharing some of your stories about living on a farm or as in Tom’s case the family farm.
Betty Riley Bryant joined us and we added conversation about other parts of the world that she has visited and done some teaching of English to teachers, scientists, and others during four-week courses.
Marilyn Ash Wilson and her companion Gary Thomas and Dominga Vegas joined us. Dominga told us about her years of being a nurse and helping to start nursing units in a new VA hospital in Puerto Rica and then her years of starting new units in a new VA hospital in San Antonio.
Marilyn is a great ambassador for Friendship Force. She has been in many interesting foreign countries. She will be going to Bangkok on her next trip.
Here is a note Gary sent to us.
Kay, I enjoyed the meal and the reminiscences with you and Marilyn's other high school friends. I can't believe there could have ever been a better time to be in high school than the late 50's and 1960. I graduated from Lovington high school in New Mexico. Lovington is a small town in southeastern New Mexico just across the Texas State line. I have attended many reunions and maintain contact with several classmates. Thanks for including me in your correspondence.
Gary Thomas
It was a fun, interesting, and memory-filled evening.
